One problem with your theory moneybags, when you reinstall windows, the option defaults itself back to automatic updates on.

Another problem is that windows xp before updates still has activation software on it.

If you did this, you would only end up with another 30 days on your trial and loses everything in C:/WINDOWS and C:/Documents and settings

No if you have a burned cd of the geniune software then you reinstall it and once done then go into the update's part :D :D
